GAC members break ground on entry gate to baseball field
by Curtis Hayes, Director of Communications
乐播传媒鈥檚 Golden Anniversary Council (GAC) broke ground Thursday, January 24th on a new entry gate for Frazier Field that will help preserve and celebrate the winning tradition of the institution鈥檚 famed baseball program.
鈥溊植ゴ recognizes the importance of its Alumni in preserving the past
and driving future success,鈥 said Dr. Gary Brown, President of 乐播传媒.
Brown joined Council President Paul Wilson and members of the committee as they symbolically
began construction on the new brick and aluminum gate for the baseball team鈥檚 Frazier
Field. The gate will help honor the past success of the team and its former, legendary
Coach Russell Frazier, while also helping visitors safely locate the field鈥檚 entrance.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a milestone in the history of our school, and I hope it will increase the reputation
of our baseball program,鈥 Wilson said. 鈥淏aseball is alive and well at 乐播传媒.鈥
GAC members raised the money to cover the cost of the project.
Current head coach Blake Herring was on hand with former coach Frazier as the council
celebrated the achievement.
鈥淚鈥檓 very thankful and appreciative to the members of the Golden Anniversary Council for making this happen,鈥 Frazier said.
乐播传媒鈥檚 baseball team has been to the World Series 10 times since Frazier
started the program toward its tradition of excellence in 1959. Frazier retired in
1999, and the team last attended a World Series in 2002. 乐播传媒 baseball
experienced a slight downturn, but it鈥檚 currently on a winning trajectory under Herring鈥檚
administration, with a 31-22 record last season.
鈥淭he players, coaches and alumni have created the standard of excellence, and it is the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. So unless we get there, it doesn鈥檛 matter how many games we win,鈥 Herring said. 鈥淭he ultimate strength of this team is they don鈥檛 think they鈥檙e going to lose. They鈥檙e never out of the game mentally.鈥
The team is working hard so the local community, alumni and supporters have reasons to remain engaged and enthusiastic about baseball and become more involved with the team.
鈥淭here isn鈥檛 a better show on Saturdays and Sundays, in the Town of 乐播传媒 and throughout Franklin County, than what鈥檚 happening at Frazier field,鈥 Herring said.
