Information Technology

ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ invites and encourages students to bring personal computers to campus to enhance their learning experience. This document contains information on how to gain internet access through the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ campus network, protect your computer against viruses, and obtain staff members’ assistance when necessary.

Internet Connection

The college equips all campus dormitory rooms with a wired category five-Ethernet connection port. Any desktop or laptop computer with Windows Vista, seven or eight operating systems, and current Macintosh systems can access internet access through this connection port. A category five-Ethernet cable is required, and students must provide it. These are available at the campus bookstore and the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Wal-Mart. A wired Ethernet connection offers the fastest and most reliable internet connection.

Wireless internet access is available throughout the campus. The name of the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ College wireless network is LC-WIFI or lc- for example, lc-Franklin2nd. 

Virus Protection

To protect your computer and the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ campus network from viruses, the college requires all computers to have anti-virus software installed and up-to-date anti-virus definitions. If your computer has anti-virus software installed, such as Norton, McAfee, or AVG with an active account, that will suffice. For those who do not have current anti-virus software installed, the college provides AVG anti-virus at no cost to students, faculty, and staff. To have anti-virus software installed, contact the IT department using the contact information below. 

Tech Support

If a student should need assistance with any technology-related issue, there are two options to obtain help:

  • Contact a Residence Life Staff member so that they can email the Information Technology helpdesk at lcit@louisburg.edu  Please provide detailed information about the nature of the request.
  • Students can also stop by an IT office in either or Davis 210 or Main 101.
  • Office hours are Monday and Wednesday from 3:00-5:00 pm   Thursday 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
